Course Overview
AZ-900 Fundamentals Training
Introduction
A person might be aware that companies operate their systems "on the cloud" but not understand what that means, what a subscription is, what a virtual machine is, or how storage works on a platform such as Azure. To address these questions, AZ-900 Fundamentals Training was created to provide a working knowledge of cloud concepts, Microsoft Azure, core services, basic architecture, security and governance basics, pricing and support.
So, what is AZ-900 and who is it for?
The AZ-900 path is a fundamentals level path designed to provide a working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and general cloud concepts rather than to train an experienced administrator. The content of this Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Course is appropriate for students, new graduates, non-technical professionals, IT support personnel, those beginning a cloud career and those who use technology every day but do not directly manage Azure. This AZ-900 Training is a beginning level training and not an advanced administration or architecture certification.
In Azure Fundamentals training, you will learn about the following services:
Instead of having dozens of Azure services, learning is broken up into a handful of distinct areas.
- Cloud concepts: public and private cloud models, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, scalability, availability and reliability.
- Azure architecture: regions, availability zones, subscriptions, resource groups and organization of Azure resources.
- Azure services: introduction to compute, storage, networking, databases and identity services.
- Azure management: the Azure Portal, Azure CLI, and basic management concepts used to work with resources.
Azure Fundamentals Training teaches these one at a time, rather than all at once.
Azure Security, Governance and Trust
Azure Security, Governance and Trust is an understanding of the security, governance and trust principles that apply to Azure.
At the beginner level, this includes an introduction to Microsoft Entra ID for identity, basic authentication and access concepts, Azure RBAC (role-based access control), Azure Policy, general resource organization, and an introduction to compliance and the shared responsibility model, which is Microsoft's method for explaining what it secures and what the customer is responsible for. This remains at a conceptual level, more advanced Azure courses involve deeper security configuration.
Azure Pricing, Support and Cost Management
This includes an understanding of Azure's pricing model, its consumption-based pricing (pay for what you use), factors influencing cost, the tools available for Azure pricing (Azure calculator), basics of Azure budgeting, and the Azure support plan options available.
Here it is important to distinguish two different costs: the AZ-900 exam fee, established by Microsoft, and the training or course fee (if applicable). These are different and current figures for either should be sought rather than assumed.
Practical Learning During AZ-900 Training
Learners tend to learn best from small, guided exercises rather than lectures. This covers Azure Portal exploration, resource group creation, browsing the Azure services, storage options, identity and access basics, understanding Azure pricing and basic monitoring and management features.
This AZ-900 Course is not designed to create a skilled Azure administrator. It's to get these basic ideas to "stick" by experiencing them first-hand, not just reading definitions.

AZ-900 Certification Training
This training is designed to aid learners in understanding the concepts that are tested in the official AZ-900 exam. Note that there are two points to distinguish: an official Microsoft certificate is the one that is awarded upon successful completion of the AZ-900 exam directly from Microsoft, and a SoftCrayons course completion certificate (if available) is only a certificate of completion of the course. This Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Certification Course does not give you the Microsoft credential, it is done by passing the exam.
AZ-900 Online Training
A useful format for AZ-900 Online Training is with a live instructor-led class, actual demonstrations, hands-on practice, assignments, doubt support and exam preparation, and only recordings for that batch if they are provided.
Azure Fundamentals Training Institute
Instead of saying that any particular institute is "the best," it is better to be aware of what should be expected from an Azure Fundamentals Training Institute:
- Clear explanation of Azure concepts
- Real-life examples
- Up-to-date content aligned with the latest Azure certifications
- Hands-on labs and exercises
- Assistance with doubts
- Sample tests
- Project-based guidance for both classroom and online learning
These are the real-world considerations, and not marketing pitches, that help you determine if a course is a good use of your time when you're comparing the Best Azure Fundamentals Training Institute.
AZ-900 Course Fees
The cost of training can also depend on the classroom vs. online training, length of training, access to labs, instructor-led training time, mentoring, project support, and certification preparation. These fees are in addition to the fee for the Microsoft AZ-900 exam, which is determined independently by Microsoft. Verify the current numbers, not assuming a fixed number.
Projects and Interview Preparation
Projects for beginners to reinforce concepts but not pretend to make them a seasoned cloud engineer:
Azure Resource Exploration Project
This exercise helps you plan costs and pricing for Azure.
Azure Storage Exercise
This is a simple exercise with Azure Storage.
Azure Identity and Access Exercise
This exercise is about Azure identity and access.
Azure Architecture Planning Exercise
This is a simple Azure Architecture Planning Exercise.
Career preparation is usually integrated with mock interviews, which provide an opportunity for learners to practice explaining what they have learned in an interview.
Career Direction After AZ-900
It is important to note that AZ-900 is not intended to make anyone an Azure Developer or Azure Cloud Engineer or Azure Solutions Architect; it is a stepping stone to further learning. Next steps from here may be to enroll in Azure administration (AZ-104), Azure developer learning (AZ-201), Azure architecture learning (AZ-202), other cloud certifications, and continued hands-on project work. All of these specialized roles build upon this fundamentals base and require further skills and experience to attain.
